Chelsey & Jeremy

Chelsey & Jeremy were married in Coggon, Iowa. Coggon is such a tiny town that there is one stop sign in the middle of it, and not a single car was on Main Street (this worked REALLY well for photographs!). Yet, it was perfect- not just for wedding photography, but because it is the hometown of Chelsey and Jeremy’s family, as well as my family. (Once upon a time, my father was a dairy farmer, just outside of town.) We had a beautiful fall day and using the historic Opera House was a fun backdrop.

Bridal Show

We had a great time at the Madison, Wisconsin Wedding Planner & Guide bridal show the weekend of January 15 & 16th. With almost 200 wedding vendors, it is a great place to start wedding planning. And with almost 1,500 brides, along with their family and friends, it was one busy place! We had fun showing off some new albums and engagement books. We also had the Cheeky Booth there and show attendees were able to check it out and have their photos taken in the booth, complete with 2 photo strips to take home.

This Saturday, January 29th, we will be at Spielman’s Bridal Open House in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from 1pm to 4pm.

You’ve found your soul mate. Now you can be sure that the memories of your wedding day will be captured beautifully with Appleby Photography’s professionalism and reputation of excellence.

We have been creating breathtaking portraits of wedding couples for 11 years, and we would be honored to add you to our list of satisfied customers.

Nicole & Nathan

Nicole and Nathan were such a sweet couple! The cool, cloudy, misty weather was no match for the love and warmth that they shared with everyone they talked to that day. There were so many emotions, from Nicole and Nathan, as well as their family and friends- it was hard to not cry right with them! The colors they used were some of my favorites. I love brown dresses, especially with pink flowers. And their candy buffet was a hit with all the guests, not just the kids.

Marieke & Andrew

Casual, laid-back weddings can sometimes have more interesting details than formal ones. Marieke and Andrew were married in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and had their wedding reception in a barn across the border in Illinois. From the roses in mason jars to the doughnuts on the tables as favors to the man calling directions for square dancing, they made their day unique.

Once Upon A Family

I will admit it: not all of my children have “Baby Books.” I certainly have good intentions. I’ve taken all of their portraits (which is half the battle, right?) and I try to remember to jot down milestones. Sometimes I write them in my date book, other times they are written on post-its or the back of envelopes. Sometimes, I think I will just “remember” and don’t even write them down. But now I wonder, “Did that happen with my second daughter or my second son? Which child walked when? What were their first words?” When you have a busy family, it’s not always easy to keep track of these things. Sometimes, life just gets too crazy. Sometimes, we forget to stop to appreciate what we cherish most- family.
And, really, when it comes down to it, I just want an easy way to keep track of my family’s history.
Enter Once Upon A Family! They have so many cool things that are all about helping you create and preserve special moments in your family! Whether you are at the beginning of your family circle and need ideas on how to preserve newborn memories, or are established with your family and want ideas on how to share your family history, Once Upon A Family can help.
Often, we think we can come up with projects like these on our own. But, when it comes down to it, we rarely make the time to follow through. Kids and work take a huge chunk of our time. The projects from Once Upon A Family are simple and easy, so you can actually find time to finish. The Dates with Dad set, where dad and daughter record special time together, or the Dear Sweet Child Letter Box, where you write a special letter to your child each year on their birthday and save it, are some of the sweetest ideas that would be so easy to do with and for your children.
I love that these ideas help create memories for both parents and children. And they help you preserve your own personal family history.

Sassy Tori | Downtown Madison

Tori’s one year session was so much fun! As soon as little ones learn to walk, they learn to run! So, keeping them in one place is not an easy task, and I admit Tori kept her mother running-running after her! An adorable pettiskirt was fun to show off Tori’s cute feet and was perfect for her when she was sitting and walking! We used the downtown area to create the urban look, while keeping a sweet feel to the images.

Tori’s parents ordered a canvas collection, so I wanted to show off the finished look. The three sizes will fit together and look great now, and will leave room to add to the collection as we photograph Tori’s brothers and sister. The large canvas portrait here is 20×24, with 11×14 and 8×10 accent portraits. The images wrap around the frame with a very contemporary, clean look. I totally LOVE it!

Sweet Boys – Capitol Downtown Madison

If we have chatted about work and kids, than you know that I personally think child care is one of THE hardest things about parenting. You also know that I adore the babysitting referral service, While You’re Out Babysitting, LLC. Cheri, the owner of this Madison business, is a fairy godmother and miracle worker rolled into one. She magically makes babysitters appear where there were not any before and she can do it in the blink of an eye. I absolutely love that Cheri does all the dirty work of finding my reliable sitters for my four children. I would not hesitate to proclaim Cheri and While You’re Out Babysitting as a key to my success, as her service allows me to concentrate on work!

This fall, I had the opportunity to photograph Cheri’s boys. We chose the Capitol and let the boys have a little fun. They were both so sweet! And I can’t believe how quickly they are growing up!

Tips on Keeping Your Planning on Track!
To keep your planning on track, it is important to keep making decisions. First you make the big decisions, then the next sized- medium decisions- and then work your way to the small details that will make your event polished and exquisite.

Tip #1: Make one long to-do list, utilize that to-do list to see what to work on next, but don’t be overwhelmed by the to-do list either. I find getting it out of your head and into a working list really does help, and if you think of something else you might want to do, put it on the list and then you can review and see if it meshes with all the other things you have left to do. Having multiple lists or a list that doesn’t make sense can be detrimental, so really try to keep in order of importance your list. At first it can seem a bit overwhelming, but by the end you will be glad to have had the to-do list.

Tip #2: Make decisions when the information is fresh in your mind- putting off decisions will only get you behind. I know you will want to think things over, I do as well. But waiting and waiting to make decisions until you have forgotten half the details from a vendor is not very effective either. Gather all your information, make your decision and then sleep on it. If it feels good in the morning, you are doing the right thing.

Tip #3: Remember what parts of your special day are the highest priorities. By putting more of your energies into the things most important to you, you are able to really make them special. Also, why waste your precious time on things you really are not worried or excited about? In the end, it will show what parts you focused your creativeness and energies on.

Tip #4: Keep moving to get to the end – ready to be married and less stressed! If you get one thing done, it will want to make you get another one done. Use the positive energy you get from this to keep moving forward in getting all those items of planning done from your list. I hear brides and their friends wishing for more time or saying- I got it all done smoothly! The ones who it went smoothly for really worked on things ahead of the deadlines.

Bonus Tip: Be brave and live a little! Making decision after decision can be daunting, but remember, your guests will like a little uniqueness to your event and you are the one you are celebrating so this day should be what you want. Also try not to only think wedding for 12 to 18 months- go out and have fun too!

Good luck and let me know what questions you might have, I love to talk weddings!
